Hey Gang!

I hope you all had an excellent 4th of July!  I survived it.  We enjoyed moving the Blues Fest musicians around for our 5th straight year.  Our next festival is Pickathon (http://pickathon.com/), and we’re gearing up for that in August.

Some other exciting things include the fact that our beloved, 235 year old country is building an interstate highway system for bicycles (http://www.grist.org/list/2011-06-24-the-u.s.-is-building-an-interstate-highway-system-for-bikes).  And in Minneapolis, a company is adding bike repair vending machines along bike routes.  The machines dispense helpful items such as bicycle lights, tire patches, and tubes (http://transportationnation.org/2011/06/28/check-out-minneapolis-bike-repair-vending-machines/).

As you may have read on our Facebook page (friend us, btw!  http://www.facebook.com/eco.shuttle), California is looking to ban Styrofoam, and I think that’s amazing.  I just wish we as Oregonians could actually beat California to some of these rad initiatives.  Maybe we can beat them to Styrofoam, or plastic bag bans, but it will take some gung-ho leadership to stand up to the powerful industry lobbyists who think we need to keep producing these out-dated products.  One thing we can do is contact our local politicians and kindly ask them to introduce a bill to ban these non-decomposing materials statewide.

Have a great weekend!
