What’s Trending in Trashion?

Hey Gang!  This week I’d like to focus some attention on an interesting effort to reuse junk and make it into fashionable clothing, otherwise known as “Junk to Funk” (http://junktofunk.org/index.php).  Junk to Funk is part visual/performance art, part fashion, part sustainability education, and part entertainment.  One of the goals of Junk to Funk is to get people to start focusing on their own consumption habits, as well as inspiring people to reuse things they formerly had no use for.

After looking at some of the outfits Junk to Funk has fostered, I’m thoroughly impressed!  Plastic spoons become earrings and umbrellas, broken compact discs become a chic skirt, the creative possibilities seem endless, and if you look at their website, you will notice a never-ending amount of media to backup that claim.  Okay, if you’ve read this far you’re probably wondering; “Mark, why are you writing about this?”  Good question!  I’m writing about this because turning trash into fashionable apparel is a noble and awesome enterprise that I wish I had thought of first (but obviously did not), and also because ecoShuttle is a sponsor of Junk to Funk’s downtown installation, which you can see at the Galleria building at SW 10th and Alder street.  The installation is viewable from the sidewalk so you can check it out at any time.  Also, I encourage you to see it!  Here is a link to a nice bit about Junk to Funk in the Oregonian (http://www.oregonlive.com/living/index.ssf/2011/03/junk_to_funk_designs_on_recycl.html).

    post titles to get viewers interested. You might try adding a video or a
    picture or two to grab people excited about what you’ve written. Just my opinion, it would bring your posts a
    little bit more interesting.
